Camus Tuath is a pretty bay, with two small tidal islands, which is accessed via a pleasant moorland walk of 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the main road, just south of Bunessan. Watch out for a fine example of a Galloway Dyke just before reaching the coast. Camus Tuath is one of several historic granite quarries located in the Ross of Mull and the granite pier can still be seen. The quarrymen’s cottages are now home to the Camus Tuath Outdoor Centre, run by the Iona Community. There are wonderful views across to the North of Mull, the Isles of Ulva and little Colonsay and the Ardmeanach Peninsula. The area is a haven for wildlife, with seals and otters often spotted on the shoreline and eagles and hen harriers patrolling the coastline and moorland. An extension of the walk to Camus Tuath can be made to reach Market Bay, further along the coast.
