From Knockvologan Beach it is easy to access the Isle of Erraid at low tide. It is an adventurous, but wonderful walk to the south side of Erraid, to a beautiful sandy bay, fringed with pink granite, known as David Balfour’s Bay (Traigh Gheal) named after the character David Balfour in Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel “Kidnapped”. From Balfour’s Bay it is possible to explore the north side of Erraid which reveals expansive views of the small islands in the Sound of Iona and across to the Isle of Iona itself. From the higher ground there are outstanding views of the Burg and Ben More on Mull and on a clear day, north to the Rum Cuillin. Erraid is tidal so leave enough time to return to Knockvologan without getting wet feet!
