Kilvickeon Beach is a more remote beach, requiring a drive along a rough track and a short walk to the coast. The beach and coast are spectacular with hills covered in wild flowers, a wide stretch of sand and a tidal island and rock pools to explore.
To reach Kilvickeon, take the turnoff from the main road just north of Bunessan, passing pretty Loch Assapol. The last part of the road is not surfaced so care is required until a parking area is reached. This is also the starting point for the deserted village of Sciaba and the beach at Scoor and the short detour to the ancient Kilvicheon Chapel and Cemetery. It is a short walk across farmland, with the view opening out to a beautiful wide curved stretch of sand, with a small tidal island in the middle, Garbh Eilean and lovely views out to Jura and Islay. This is a place to spend time, especially with children, from the sandy bays and rock pools to the backdrop of knolls covered in wild flowers and an Iron Age Fort, Dun a Gheard to the west of the beach.
