Travelling west from the ferry terminal at Craignure, passing forests and the Ben More mountain range, a different landscape comes into view of secluded red granite coves, sparkling sea views and white sand beaches. The Ross of Mull (An Ros Mhuileach) is 17 miles of unique geology between the spectacular sea loch, Loch Scridain on the northern coastline and the Firth of Lorne to the south. Dramatic rocky coastlines are punctuated by beautiful sandy beaches with tantalising views out to sea of the Treshnish Isles on the horizon.
The Ross of Mull is definitely a playground for the outdoor enthusiast offering bouldering and rock climbing, walking, cycling and kayaking amongst other sports and activities. For those interested in the natural environment, the area is wildlife heaven. There are several land and sea tour operators who offer wildlife trips to help you spot the rarities but many species are very visible, even to the non-expert. All visitors are impressed by the outstanding scenery and pristine environment, which offers a wealth of inspiration to photographers and artists.
