A Visit to Carsaig

Saturday, 15 June 2019

A trip to Carsaig is on the bucket list of most adventurous walkers visiting Mull, due to the attraction of the Carsaig Arches, which require a demanding, dramatic and rewarding trek to reach. However, it is very worthwhile to visit Carsaig Bay on its own; the grandeur of the bay contrasting with the towering volcanic cliffs surrounding the fertile glen.

Quite rightly, many people are attracted to visit the tiny unique Iona which is found off the tip of the Ross of Mull.  The area is fairly remote, and the journey passes through very beautiful scenery, so why not plan at least a 3-day stay or more and enjoy exploring this special corner of the Hebrides.

Recommended detour: Lochbuie

Saturday, 18 August 2018

When planning your visit to Achaban House, and if coming via Craignure, it might be worth thinking about setting out early to take a detour as there are so many iconic places to visit along the way. One of our favourites is Lochbuie, one of the most beautiful locations on Mull; a sweeping bay fringed with mountains; a 15th century castle; a stone circle in a magical setting, a mediaeval chapel and the quirky “old post office” for old-style shopping and refreshments with an honesty box.

Exploring the coast of Ardtun

Tuesday, 31 July 2018

A walk along the coast at Ardtun, near Bunessan, is suited to those with a more adventurous outlook as the going can be very rough in places. But it is a fascinating part of the Ross of Mull and worth the effort if you take care, so we set off on a fine afternoon last week to explore the coast and try a bit of fishing. The waters of Loch Scridain were a beautiful blue green and crystal clear, perfect for snorkelling and the views across Loch Scridain to Burg and the Ardmeanach Peninsula are breathtaking.

Puffin trips from Fionnphort

Monday, 2 July 2018

One of the main attractions for our guests is the opportunity to see puffins on a cruise to Staffa or the Treshnish Isles. Puffins have great appeal because of their small size and comical walk as well as their distinctive rainbow coloured bill, white cheeks and clown-like black stripe down over each eye. One of the delights of puffins on Staffa and the Treshnish Isles is that they are so unafraid of humans – and in some cases downright friendly!
